It was hot outside, it was even hotter in the studio during our inaugural Unapologetic photo shoot.
ABOUT US AND FRIDA
‘Unapologetic’ is a luxury homewares brand owned by KB9 Pty Ltd who have the rights to the Frida Kahlo images throughout Australasia, Japan and in Europe and the USA. This photo shoot launched our ‘Unapologetic Frida’ range for rugs and images from this shoot are to be used for marketing of the brand.
Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) was a famous Mexican artist. She was a strong woman, a political activist and is admired today as a feminist icon. Frida was a promiscuous temptress and bi-sexual. When she was bed-ridden after illness and an accident, she started painting, influenced by her indigenous Mexican culture using bright colours and symbolism. She became well-known for her self-portraits and her monobrow.
CREATIVE BRIEF
This shoot included three models and two limited edition rugs (which have just arrived from the aritisans). The models were predominantly nude or in bodysuits and had hair lavishly decorated with flowers and floral arrangements. Some of Frida’s iconic self-portraits had lavish floral arrangements in her hair. Hair and makeup took inspiration from Frida’s image without making the models look like Frida, as such.
Frida once said… “I never painted dreams – I painted my own reality”.
